AUTUMN MONGOLIA 2015 PHOTOTRIP

Join me on another photography adventure to Mongolia in the vibrant autumn colours this September. On this 13-day trip we will experience first-hand the unique Mongolian culture and heritage, from staying in the ger, tasting Mongolian delicacies to horse riding. We’ll do all this while we discuss, talk and learn photography in a casual setting. Even if you’re not a photography enthusiast, there’s plenty to experience. This is the one special trip you wouldn’t want to miss.

This trip will also include:

  • My guidance on all things photography related to this trip, to ensure you get great imageries while learning about photography on this trip. Photo review sessions and critique when timing and situation are suitable.
  • We will be doing long exposures at night in several locations to capture star trails under the crystal clear night skies of Mongolia. There will also be light painting sessions on this trip.
  • A tour guide/translator travelling along with the group, providing great insight and information to each of the location we visit for a richer travel experience and access to locals.

Tips for guides/drivers, meals and extra activities not covered in the itinerary and any incidental charges due to unforeseen changes in the itinerary. 

ITINERARY

16/9 Day 1: Wednesday evening

We begin our journey by taking the night flight to Ulaan Bataar at night, with flight transit in Seoul, reaching Ulaan Bataar in the afternoon the following day.

 

17/9 Day 2: Thursday

Arrival at Ulaan Bataar in the afternoon. We’ll check in to the hotel and have some time to get to know Ulaan Bataar city in the evening.

18/9 Day 3: Friday

Horse riding in Terlej National Park.

We’ll check out early in the morning to make our first stop at the Terlej national park. O/N Terlej National Park. 

 

19/9 Day 4: Saturday

We’ll leave Terlej Park to head towards Kharkorin, the ancient capital that was once a thriving supply base before the capital was moved to Beijing. A place rich in history, offering plenty of photo-opportunities. The Kharkhorin museum offers a great wealth of information on this historical site too. Overnight stay with a local family. Food market and electricity is available. O/N Kharhorin

 

20/9 Day 5: Sunday

In the morning we’ll visit the Erdenezuu temple, an ancient temple with plenty of photo opportunity and depart to the Orkhon Valley National Park to explore the famous Ulaan Tsutgalan water and overnight here.

21/9 Day 6: Monday

We’ll then proceed to drive to Great White Lake (Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur - volcano lake), via Chuluut canyon, a spectacular vista. Great White Lake is also known for the site for Genghiz Khan's coronation. Horse riding activity is available here and highly recommended (relatively cheap, at particpant’s own cost).

22/9 Day 7: Tuesday

Activities around Great White Lake. There are horse riding available around the lake, and we could also option to trek to the Khorog volcano crater. O/N White Lake

 

23/9 Day 8: Wednesday

Leaving Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, we head to Mürün town for a well-deserved shower and re-supply. Overnight stay with a local family. Market, shower and electricity is available.  O/N Murun

 

24/9 Day 9: Thursday

In the morning, we’ll make a stop to visit the Deer stones, the most preserved stones in the world. We’ll then proceed to Khuvsgul lake, a pristine beautiful lake up north of Mongolia, where it holds 93 percent of Mongolia’s water surface. Activities available here includes horse riding and trekking on this place often referred to as the Eastern Switzerland thanks to its sleepy wooden houses and pine trees that line the hillside. Overnight stay with a guesthouse. Horse riding and shower is available. O/N Khuvsgul

25/9 Day 10: Friday

Activities around Khovsgol Lake - horse riding to other parts of Lake Khovsgol (at own expense). O/N Khuvsgul

 

26/9 Day 11: Saturday

Activities around Khovsgol Lake - horse riding to other parts of Lake Khovsgol (at own expense). O/N Khuvsgul

27/9 Day 12: Sunday

Leaving Khuvsgul lake, we’ll drive back to Mürün then to Khutag - Ondor village where we’ll stay overnight with a local family by a river. O/N Khutag Ondor

 

28/9 Day 13: Monday

On our way back to Ulaan Bataar, we’ll make a stop along our journey at Amarbayasgalant, an ancient monastery by the hillside. One of the the largest monastery of Mongolia, built in 17th century in the memory of the Bogdo Lama Zanabazar- head of Mongolian religion. Located in the northern province Selenge, the monastery lies in beautiful surroundings good for walking and great for photography as it has very few visitors. Overnight stay with a local family.

 

29/9 Day 14: Tuesday

We’ll make our way back to Ulaan Bataar on this last leg of our tour. When we reach UB, we will have some free time in the evening for souvenir shopping and a good dinner together with all our new found friends of the trip before we say goodbye the following morning. Overnight at hotel.

 

30/9 Day 15: Wednesday

Fly back to KL at night, transit in Incheon, Korea. Reach Kuala Lumpur the following morning.
